What is My Fallbrook Home?

My Fallbrook Home is a free, web-based service that helps you more easily find the best neighbor-recommended home improvement and repair service companies. We conveniently gather Friends of Fallbrook, Friends of Bonsall, and NextDoor recommendations and then cross-reference other review and rating sites to make your research simple and complete. You can find and compare businesses, as well as find their contact information, service description, and even their contractor’s license.

Our site is a service provided by Michael Faelin, your local energy expert. It is his desire to help his neighbors find the best companies for the job just as he wants to help you find the best solar installers, equipment, and financing options for all your solar needs.

Below are the most frequently asked questions that will also help you to know how to use our site!

How We Determine Business Listings

How do you determine which businesses are on your website?

First, we hand count how many times a business is recommended by neighbors on Friends of Fallbrook, Friends of Bonsall, and NextDoor’s Fallbrook neighborhoods. If a business has 10 or more recommendations for a particular category (e.g. Plumbers), they will be included on our website. We periodically update our count so it is possible that other businesses will gather enough recommendations to meet our 10+ quota and subsequently be listed. There are also instances where a company is listed in two categories because they were recommended for those services respectively (e.g. Handyman and Plumbing).

We do not count recommendations that are given through self-promotion or family members. We make every effort to count only those recommendations who have actually used a business’s services. Because we do this service manually, there may be a percentage  + or – margin of error.

How do you rank the businesses?

We rank businesses according to how many recommendations they received, from highest to lowest, starting with local businesses (Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow, and De Luz) and then businesses in the surrounding area (Valley Center, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside, and Temecula). You can also choose to filter listings according to whether or not they are in the local or surrounding areas.

Do businesses have to pay to be on My Fallbrook Home?

No, recommended businesses do not pay to be on this site, nor do they pay to be ranked higher in the listings. When a user sees the number of recommendations shown in our chart, that is how many positive recommendations they received. We do not reduce a business’s recommendation tally because another neighbor gives a negative recommendation.

How can I get my business listed on My Fallbrook Home?

Whenever there is a request for recommendations for a service you provide, ask your customers to recommend you! We keep track of all businesses that are recommended, not just the listed ones.

Another way to be recommended is for your customer to do what is called a “shout-out.” A shout-out is when a customer posts on Friends of Fallbrook, Friends of Bonsall, or NextDoor telling others about how happy they were regarding a project or repair you did.

Once you make 10+ recommendations, we will contact you to verify your listing and allow you to post content on your listing page.

How to Find and Choose a Service or Business

What do I do if I can’t find the service I’m looking for?

You can use the search bar and enter the service you desire. If no results are found, you can try wording it differently. If you still cannot find a service (e.g. mirror and glass repair), it means we do not currently have a service provider that has been recommended for that need. Feel free to e-mail us, however as we may have names of some companies that, though they were not recommended by neighbors ten or more times, we can give you.

What is the chart that appears along with each business?

We have made it our goal to help you compare businesses making it easier to decide which ones you may want to contact. Each chart includes the business’s information that lists how many FOF, FOB, and NextDoor neighbor recommendations they have. We then list each business based on highest to lowest neighbor recommendations.

On this chart, we also list any ratings they received from one or more rating sites. These rating sites are used only for your convenience when comparing and researching and in no way affect whether or not they make our list nor affect their ranking on this list. We include ratings from Yelp, Google, Home Advisor, Angie’s List, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Only their rating, not reviews, are shown. If you do not see a rating from one of these rating companies it means the business doesn’t have a rating from them.

While we don’t include in the chart any neighbor ratings and reviews of businesses that have been posted on our site, you may find it useful to consider them in determining the fitness of a business. We also give you the ability to leave reviews (positive or negative) on our site to help other neighbors in their research!

Do you have any tips as to how to best choose a business?

We recommend that you should always get at least three bids for larger home improvement projects, and speak with at least three references from any company. Make sure you are comfortable with them and feel they can clearly communicate with you. If your project is over $500 and requires a license, be sure to remember to check the Contractors State License Board for proper licensing. For each company listed in our directory, you’ll find their contractor’s license number listed on their company page (if they have one). We’ve also provided a link to their California contractors state license page below their contractor’s license number for your convenience.

What if I cannot find my favorite business on your list?

We only list those neighbor-recommended businesses that have 10+ recommendations and that fall within our local (Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow, and De Luz) or surrounding (Valley Center, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside, and Temecula) areas. There are some instances where a business has been recommended but falls outside of those areas and therefore we do not list them. Our website is to encourage neighbors to use local and nearby businesses.

To help your favorite business appear on our list, you can make a recommendation whenever there is a request for recommendations for a service! We keep track of all businesses that are recommended, not just the listed ones. Be sure to give the name of the company, the name of the person, and the phone number as it makes it much easier for us to know who it is being recommended.

How do I contact a business?

On each category listing and business’s listing page you will find the contact information. Some companies will have more information on their listing page than others. We do not have control as to how much they choose to put on there. We are not responsible for a company’s contact or descriptive information that may have changed apart from our knowledge. We do our best to keep it as accurate and as up-to-date as possible. We ask that users inform us if contact information is not correct by sending an email to info@myfallbrookhome.com.

Business Reviews and Ratings

How do I leave a review for a business?

If a user desires to leave a positive or negative review and rate their experience with that business, they can do so on our site. Just click the “Write A Review” tab found under the photo(s) on the business’ page. To give a review, simply rate the business based on the 5-star system, type in your first name, and leave your review.

The person leaving the review/rating must be an actual customer of the business. We will not post any review from a competing business or an unrelated person to an actual job. All reviews are subject to our review and will be posted or not posted at our sole discretion. Reviews that contain inappropriate, obscene, immoral, or defamatory language will not be allowed. What is your relationship with the social media and rating sites you use?

We are not associated with Friends of Fallbrook, Friends of Bonsall, or NextDoor except to the extent that we count neighbor recommendations, as well as inform those making a request for recommendations on the social media platforms of our website services.

We are not associated with Yelp, Google, Home Advisor, Angie’s List, or the Better Business Bureau (BBB) except to the extent that we cross-reference these web rating/review sites to list a business’ ratings if the business has any. We cross-reference these site’s ratings only for the user’s convenience and they do not in any way affect the neighbor recommendation count, nor any reviews found on our site. We periodically update the ratings from these sites in our chart, however, the user may find that the data may not reflect the most recent activity. We encourage users to go to these ratings/review sites to read the reviews so that they can research a business more thoroughly.

Addressing Concerns with a Service Provider

I can’t get in touch with a business. What should I do?

First, determine if the contact information is up-to-date. In rare instances, the contact information may have changed and we are not aware of it. Please contact us at info@myfallbrookhome.com to let us know if this is the case.

Second, there are many reasons why a business might not respond promptly, Many businesses are individuals without office staff, or they had to leave town unexpectedly. Most of the time it’s an honest mistake where paperwork slipped through the cracks or a call was missed by an answering service. If need be, you can find another business on our list to contact. That said, most business owners will follow up with you to resolve the issue as they want to keep customers happy and receive positive reviews.

What if I’m dissatisfied with a business’s work or communication?

We encourage you to first contact them to try and resolve the issue. If that fails, you can leave a review on our site to let the business know your complaint. You can also report them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), as well as leave your review on the other rating/review sites. A business wants to keep a good reputation and often will work with you more diligently if they know they will get poor reviews. If all else fails, you can contact the Contractors State License Board to make a complaint.

Unfortunately, My Fallbrook Home has no control over whether or not a business does a quality job or communicates properly, therefore we are not responsible for any poor workmanship or lack of communication.
